In case of emergency Everybody in Europe knows that there is a single currency for most EU countries, but how many know that there is also a single phone number for emergencies in Europe: 112? It’s free and available to all travelers who don’t know the emergency numbers of the European country they find themselves in (15 and 18 in France). It connects them to the nearest police station, ambulance service or fire station. The 112, which is prioritized over all other calls, can be dialed from a smartphone or a cell phone, even when its network is saturated or if it is locked. The people who answer are English-speaking, but translators are available if needed.
