Jeu de scène en ville

Paris Carolyn Carlson’s 1997 dance Signes was inspired by seven of Olivier Debré’s paintings (from an abstract series on the smile), including L’Esprit du bleu, Loire du matin and Monts de Guilin. Twenty years later, this ballet is the inspiration for a line of accessories in bright primary colors and flowing dancewear by Repetto (who else?).

Visions du monde flottant

Paris The Cinémathèque Française is paying tribute to Japan, that “mother-of-pearl shell” (Cocteau) that came from the sea. The program includes 26 memorable movies, with such classics as I Was Born, But . . ., as well as oddities like Warning From Space. The Galerie des Donateurs is exhibiting some beautiful kimonos worn in films and other rarities (drawings by Kurosawa).

Impressions Redon

Bordeaux As well as being inspired by dreams, artist Odilon Redon was also a lover of nature: that of his childhood in the Médoc vineyards, as well as the Basque country and the Brittany moors. His landscapes reflect his “relationship with space,” writes Rodolphe Rapetti in the exhibition catalog published by Snoeck.

Ceci n’est pas une carte…

Paris Not a map, but a photo album folded into a concertina. These are not pictures of the Volkswagen designed by Ferdinand Porsche, but 36 portraits of the beloved Beetle taken by people all over the world. Some 21.5 million of them were sold. A record. An era. A passion.
